Dubai
In Dubai a fixer came to help us with the paperwork. After about 3 hours all the necessary paperwork for the car was done, we had visa and our luggage was scanned. We were glad everything went well in the end. The total costs were 650 euro’s.
We drove into the city of Dubai! How cool to have done that by car. The difference with Iran was enormous: everything was clean, the roads were in perfect condition, and everything was well arranged. The oil-dollars were visible everywhere. We enjoyed seeing all the fancy cars driving around in Dubai.
We arranged breakfast and a (relatively) cheap hotel in the Bur area. The hotel turned out not to be such a good choice, but we compensated this with some nice activities during our stay in the Emirates.
In the late afternoon and evening we explored the Bur area and took a water taxi to the Deir area. We were not very impressed; it was quite artificial and touristy.

The next day we decided to have our car cleaned on the way to the city center. For only 20 euro’s the car was taken care off professionaly by about 5 guys, the car has probably never been that clean so far.
There are loads of employees from India, Bangladesh, China, etc. in Dubai who work at petrol stations, in restaurants, hotels, shops, and so on and keep the city going.
After the car wash we decided to make it a maintenance day, and had the oil refreshed and the diesel-, oil- and airfilter changed and did all kind of other useful stuff for the car. It took us a big part of the day but we enjoyed it a lot. Buster was ready for the next part of our trip.

We drove to the famous Palm Island taking Jumeirah Road along the coast. On the way we got a lot of thumbs up and enthiousiatic greets from “Sheiks” who liked our car and the fact we came all the way from The Netherlands. We wanted to have drinks at the rooftop bar of The One and Only Royal Mirage Hotel, but we took a wrong exit and found out Palm Island is huge, so it took us about 1,5 hours to get there. But the cool Peroni beer award was worth it after 15,5 days without alcohol, a new world record for us. The hotel was the nicest and chicest hotel we had ever seen and we liked the atmosphere, so we decided to have dinner in the Arabian Courtyard. After dinner we followed the local “sheikh” example of having a good sheesha.

The following day we went to the Dubai Mall and the Burj Kalifa. The Mall is the biggest in the world with over 1200 shops with all the luxurious brands you can think off. It has an indoor ice skating area. From the mall we took the elevator of the Burj Kalifa who took us to the 124th floor of this 828meter high building within a minute. The views were like from an airplane.

Abu Dhabi
In the evening we drove to Abu Dhabi where we booked a relaxed hotel. We wanted to chill a bit and hang at the swimming pool after having been traveling for 5 weeks now.
The next day we had breakfast with Camelcino at The Emirates Palace, an unbelievably luxurious and big hotel, where the rich and famous book their rooms. In Abu Dhabi there are also a lot of cool buildings and we liked the atmosphere. We chilled out at one of the beaches.
Furthermore we visited the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque (built in 2007), where, surprisingly, we saw the biggest carpet in the world (5627 square meters) and the biggest chandelier in the world. The inside of the Mosque was not really our taste, but it is fascinating to see how money is being spent nowadays by the richest people in the world.

We liked the United Arabic Emirates a lot and will definitely be back there.
